Hotel St. Regis: shade sails for the private terraces of the suites

Attention to detail and design are fundamental in the hotel industry, especially when it comes to high-end hotels. To this end, the Hotel St. Regis asked us to make two shade sails to embellish the terraces of its suites and enhance the guest experience.

The client: Hotel St. Regis

The Hotel St. Regis is a five-star hotel in the heart of Venice. Overlooking the Grand Canal and the city’s historic sites, it has boasted an enviable position for more than a century and a half.

To ensure its guests are as comfortable as possible, the hotel offers the perfect combination of modern interiors and a historically rich past, as well as an elegant look and design, smart technology and butler service.

This is not the first time the client has approached us for a project, so we already had an established relationship. We have worked with the Hotel St. Regis for many years, and actually made the awnings on the outside facades.

Objectives

Some of the hotel’s 37 suites are furnished with a private terrace. The hotel wanted to create a covering for two of the suites’ private terraces, which used to be equipped with small sunshades. The goal was to improve the aesthetics and exterior design of the hotel, as well as to provide guests with an even more exclusive and comfortable space.

The solution: mobile shade sails in white fabric

To meet the client’s needs, we made two large mobile sunshades measuring 3×3 metres. Our proposal of two stylish and easy-to-use motorised sunshades was met with a positive reception, as they are able to provide shade over the entire terrace. The shade sails are made from marine carbon fibre, a lightweight material, which can provide perfect shade during the day and is durable enough to withstand gusts of wind up to 25 knots. The hotel particularly appreciated the finish of the steel structure and the reflections from the fabric, which create an attractive play of light and shadow.

The shade sails also recognise the importance of sailcloth in a humid and briny environment like Venice.

The client requested that the colour of the sunshades be as white as possible to maintain an elegant, understated and exclusive style.

We assembled and cleaned the sunshades in our facilities and personally installed them on the terraces of the suites. o allow for the best possible maintenance, as with every other project, we have provided the Hotel St. Regis with a kit to clean both the fabric and the structure of the shade sails.

The results

The hotel’s new shade sails have brought aesthetic improvements to the building, particularly to the shaded area on the private terraces. Now, all the furniture is shaded. Because they are motorised guests can easily position them as they please at different times of the day, depending on their needs. Another advantage of these sunshades is their integrated spotlights, which allow the terraces to be enjoyed after sunset and create aromantic ambiance in the evening, diffusing the light beautifully. In addition to the aesthetic advantages, they also protect against humidity, which is an important matter given the location of the Hotel St. Regis.

As the client is satisfied, we are also planning to equip the other suites that have terraces spacious enough to accommodate our shade sails.
